Indoor air quality issues impact the lives of millions of people across the world. Fun fact: did you know that most people spend 90% of their time in an indoor environment? Loss in productivity, health problems, liability issues, and a decrease in a home or business’ value can be the result of poor air quality in the property.
What is Air Quality Testing?
Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the quality of the air within, as well as around, structures and buildings and is directly connected with the comfort and health of the buildings occupants. Numerous factors can have an effect on air quality – gases such as radon and carbon monoxide, microbial contaminants and particulates such as mold, are but a few of the culprits that make indoor air quality poor. Air quality testing will show whether or not the air within and surrounding your California City home or business is healthy and to what extent it has an affect on your health and the health of of your family members or employees.
When Renew Restoration performs an air quality test, we will provide you with information on the state of the air quality in your California City property, and on the factors that are contaminating it. Testing for mold is one small part of what air quality testing is about. It means that we will be taking different samples from hard surfaces and the air, which we will then analyze to determine if your home or business has a mold infestation.
When the air quality specialists at Renew Restoration come to perform an air quality testing at your California City property, we will visually inspect your heating and ventilation appliances to check for combustion safety concerns (for potential carbon monoxide leaks), any problems with your furnace’s filter, and to see where your property stands with respect to ventilation. This includes:
- Visual inspection of the furnace or heating system to look for obvious damage or defects
- Assessment of the filter’s size, effectiveness, and installation
- Measurement of the flow-rates of your bathroom exhaust fans, whole-house fans, and fresh-air intake ducts
- A report of your property’s actual ventilation levels and what we recommend it to be at
During the test, we will measure different environmental factors with special meters. These numbers will show us how the air quality in your home or business really is, and to help pinpoint exactly what factors may be the most important to address and improve on.
We test for:
- Relative Humidity
- Carbon Dioxide – in parts per million
- Carbon Monoxide – in parts per million
- Total VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) in parts per billion
On top of taking an indoor air quality sample of your property, we will also take one from the outside area surrounding it. This will allow us to see if there are any abnormal levels of spores in your home or business, and what the types of mold spores are, as well as the amount that you may be breathing into your lungs.
